NotebookLM Prompt Templates for Book Digestion Summaries Themes
Targeted prompts for NotebookLM that turn uploaded books or chapters into summaries, theme maps, discussion questions, and ready-to-listen audio overviews for study or teaching.
Objective: Provide ready-to-use prompts that work inside NotebookLM after you upload a full book or selected chapters, so the tool produces clear chapter summaries, character or theme maps, discussion questions, and polished audio-overview scripts suited for personal learning or classroom preparation.
The base prompt was shaped through these steps:
- Account for NotebookLM’s source-first design: the book text is already uploaded, so the prompt only needs to reference the sources rather than paste the full content.
- Keep the instructional language stable across different books and place it in reusable snippets.
- Isolate the changeable details (title, chapter focus, output mix, audience, depth, tone) as variables.
- Align the requested outputs with NotebookLM’s native strengths, especially the Audio Overview feature.
- Require explicit section headings so the generated response stays easy to copy, refine, or turn into a formal lesson plan.
Upload one book or a focused set of chapters as sources first. Then open the NotebookLM chat and paste the completed prompt. Large books work best when split across multiple notebooks or limited to key sections.
